Slightly Stoopid Giving Away 4-Song Sampler from Upcoming Album “Top of the World” Today

With their highly anticipated new album Top of the World set for release on August 14, Slightly Stoopid is providing fans with an early preview by giving away a four-song sampler for free today. The download, which contains a radio edit of the album’s title track, plus the album songs “Don’t Stop,” “Just Think” (featuring ex-Jurassic Five emcee Chali 2na) and “Pon Da Horizon,” is available now at http://www.slightlystoopid.com. These four tracks are a clear indication of how the band’s multi-genre-influenced sound, a true mash-up of good-time grooves, has amassed them such a dedicated worldwide following.

A radio version of “Top of the World”—which adds a remixed hip-hop beat and turntables to the album track’s existing hypnotic guitar line and undeniable vocal hooks—was recently serviced to stations nationwide, and has been quickly added to the playlists of tastemakers including KROQ/Los Angeles, 91X/San Diego and SF’s Live 105. Slightly Stoopid’s previous smash radio hit, “2 AM,” from their 2007 album Chronchitis, was the #1 “most played” track on more than 20 stations nationwide and “Top of the World” appears to be launching on that same trajectory.

Top of the World, their seventh studio album, is the latest chapter in the ongoing Slightly Stoopid story, and will be released on the band’s own label, Stoopid Records. For this release, the seven-piece band gathered an all-star crew to join on the record, including: reggae legends Barrington Levy and Don Carlos of Black Uhuru; “unofficial 8th member” Karl Denson of Greyboy Allstars; longtime band friend and touring partner G. Love; Fishbone frontman Angelo Moore; Dumpstaphunk’s Ian Neville; and hit-making singer/songwriter Angela Hunte.

The band’s previous releases include their successful debut and follow-up (Slightly Stoopid and The Longest Barrel Ride). The group launched Stoopid Records with 2001’s Acoustic Roots: Live and Direct. They then went on to release Everything You Need (selling more than 250,000 copies); Closer To The Sun, Winter Tour ’05-’06; their first-ever DVD, Live in San Diego; Chronchitis (which debuted in the Billboard 100 and hit #2 on the indie charts); and Slightly Not Stoned Enough To Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid (a compilation of B-sides and new material).

Since forming in 1995, Slightly Stoopid has toured virtually non-stop, and this summer is no different. Slightly Stoopid recently joined forces with 311 to launch the Unity Tour 2012. This installment of the annual trek is hitting amphitheaters nationwide through September 5th (see below or click for itinerary). Previously, Slightly Stoopid’s annual summer amphitheater tours have been supported by Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Ozomatli, Sly & Robbie and Stephen Marley, at venues including Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Berkeley’s Greek Theater and NYC’s Central Park, as well as festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and New Orleans Jazz Fest.

Vampire Weekend is pleased to announce their next North American tour, starting on August 27th in Vancouver, British Columbia. All dates are below, and support on most dates is Beach House and Dum Dum Girls. Tickets for the shows will be available for pre-sale on May 19th at 12PM EST, and the general sale starts on Friday May 24th at 12noon local time. The run of shows will end with a three-night stand in their New York hometown at Radio City Music Hall, and then a show in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl.
