Metallica does not do small statements. For the opening night of the M72 World Tour in Amsterdam, they walked out and opened with Orion. An instrumental. First time it has opened a show since 2011.
The whole tour is built on a wild promise:
two nights in every city, two completely different setlists, zero repeats. Night one at the Johan Cruijff ArenA was sixteen songs: For Whom The Bell Tolls, King Nothing, The Day That Never Comes, Ride The Lightning, Battery, Fuel, and Master Of Puppets to close it.
They also debuted two brand new ones live for the first time: Screaming Suicide and Sleepwalk My Life Away from 72 Seasons. And the stage is a whole new animal, in the round with the Snake Pit moved to the center so the band is surrounded on all sides.
Mammoth WVH and Architects opened. Two nights, no repeats, in the round. If your band is not taking notes, start.
