The E Street Band played its first US show since 2016 last night, and Bruce Springsteen gave Tampa 28 songs and more than three hours. He opened with No Surrender, which tells you everything about the intent.
Six songs from Letter to You, their first record together in six years. Two from the soul covers album, Nightshift and Don't Play That Song. Last Man Standing got its live debut, just Bruce and an acoustic guitar. The main set ran from Ghosts and Prove It All Night through Backstreets, the Rising, and Badlands.
The seven song encore was all classics. Burnin' Train, Born to Run, Rosalita, Glory Days, Dancing in the Dark, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out. Then Bruce alone, acoustic, I'll See You in My Dreams to close the night.
Eighteen pieces on that stage. Next stop Atlanta on Friday. The Boss is back and the band sounds like it never left.
