Three hours and fifteen minutes. Forty four songs. Ten albums. One Taylor Swift.
The Eras Tour kicked off last night in Glendale, Arizona, a city that literally renamed itself Swift City for the occasion, and it was everything the 70,000 people in that stadium hoped for and then some. This was her first real tour in five years, and she came out swinging with Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince, giving the top of the setlist to the Lover era, the tour that never happened because of the pandemic.
The structure is genius in its simplicity. Every era gets its own chapter. Fearless gets its gold sparkle moment, Red gets the ten minute All Too Well, folklore gets the most songs of any album with eight, reputation gets the snake throne energy, and Midnights closes the whole thing out with Karma as the confetti falls.
She looked out at the crowd at one point and asked, 'Is it just me or do we have a lot to catch up on?' Yeah, Taylor. Five years is a lot of catching up. Second night in Glendale tonight, then Vegas. The biggest tour on planet Earth has officially started.
