The tour was supposed to start in Toronto. Then the entire Rogers network went down.
So the After Hours til Dawn tour kicked off last night in Philadelphia instead, at a sold-out Lincoln Financial Field, and The Weeknd turned a Plan B into a statement. The stage was a full Toronto skyline, lit up with pyro, his love letter to the hometown he could not open in. A runway stretched almost the whole length of the stadium, ending at an enormous moon for the Dawn FM era.
Twenty nine songs. He opened with Alone Again and Gasoline, debuted Take My Breath live, and ran through the whole catalog: Can't Feel My Face, The Hills, Starboy, Heartless, Hurricane with the Kanye verse, Crew Love with the Drake verse, Kiss Land, Die For You, and Blinding Lights to close.
Doja Cat was supposed to open the tour but had to pull out for throat surgery, so Kaytranada and Mike Dean held it down instead.
This tour was supposed to happen in 2021. Then the pandemic. Then the outage. Third time is the charm, and Philly got the show.
