The xx came back at sunset and it was worth the eight-year wait

First show together since 2018, first festival in eight years, and they closed with Intro as the outro. The xx are back.

Eight years. That is how long it had been since The xx played a festival, and they picked sunset on the Coachella main stage to end the drought.

Friday night, 7 p.m., right before Sabrina Carpenter's headline set. They opened with Crystalised, worked through the three albums, Angels, VCR, Say Something Loving, Islands, and folded in a medley of their solo work: Romy's Enjoy Your Life, Oliver Sim's GMT, Jamie's Wanna. Then they closed with Intro as the outro, which is the most xx move imaginable.

The band said it themselves after:

their first festival show in eight years, and sharing it at sunset felt special. They had only just played together for the first time since 2018 a week earlier in Mexico City. This was the real homecoming.

No new album yet, just rumors. But if this is the warmup, the next chapter is going to be something.
