File this under things I wish happened to me: Marco Heubaum woke up from a dream with a melody in his head, recorded it immediately, and it became Northstar, the new Xandria single.
The German symphonic metal crew just released the third single from Eclipse, out since August on Napalm Records. Northstar weaves Celtic tin and low whistles through heavy guitars and full orchestration. It's dreamy in the best way, and you can hear where it came from.
The full record is stacked:
a Pink Floyd-indebted guitar solo, a piano part from a Hans Zimmer studio musician on The Last Generation, a children's choir, and the Sofia Session Orchestra. Eleven tracks of symphonic metal that actually earns the word cinematic.
They're on the road right now, a 32-date European run that started in London on September 16 and wraps October 23 in Hamburg. Tonight they're in Munich. If you're anywhere near one of those rooms, go get the full orchestra treatment.
